My First 5k :-)

This morning I "ran" (I use that term VERY loosely!) my first 5k! It was great!!! I woke up to thunder and a downpour, but rain or shine, the race must go on. I basically had only a couple of goals for the morning:

1. Don't finish last
2. Don't leave on a stretcher (running on the road + not very coordinated + RAIN!!! = a recipe for DISASTER!!!!)
3. Finish under 40 minutes

Well, I reached all my goals! I was soaked before I even started, but it felt so good! There were between 5 and 10 people who finished after me, my lack of coordination never reared its ugly head, and I made it in 39:48. That's about a 12:30 mile, so not too shabby!

I am going to run another one in November, so I'm hoping to get my time around 30 minutes (29-31). I think if I just push myself, I'll be fine. I felt like could have done better, but with the rain, I didn't want to push it (basically, I was chanting, "Please don't slip, please don't fall..." over and over again.).

This week, I also hit another new low- 193. Woohoo! Two more pounds and I'll only be "overweight"! This week might be the week!!! Here's to hoping, right?

Goals for this week:

Lots of steamed veggies
Lots of water
Lots of cardio
See 191!!!!!!

So...how'd YOU do this week?

I'll just say, my diet and exercise routine went OUT the freaking window this week. I was stressed about some things, then my neighbor gave me the most AWESOME chocolate chip cookie recipe EVER! Holy cow, I feel like crap, but they were sooooooo good! This week, I will be back on....I have to be.

I didn't gain (at least I don't think I did). Actually, I saw a new low this week. But I know I blew it bad enough toward the end of this week that I probably am up.

Oh, and I signed up for a 5k for the weekend of the 25th. As in September 25th. Ummmm...let's just say I'm not exactly expecting to run the whole thing, but I think it will be a good experience. If anything, it will give me a baseline before my first "real" 5k in November.

My Goals:
Make the transition from "obese" to "Overweight"
Run 1.25 miles without stopping.

Goals

Alright, it's Friday, so I'd better start thinking about next week's goals. I know sometime this month I want to see 191 on the scale. That is the threshold from "obese" to merely "overweight". I can't wait to be overweight again!

This week, I want to run an entire mile without stopping. Right now I run .2, then walk .05 and alternate until the mile is complete. It takes a between 11 and 12 minutes. I think if I run the entire thing, I could get that time under 11, and that would be great! After that, I want to add 1/4 a mile until I'm up to the 5k distance.

I was trying to do the couch to 5k program, but honestly, I felt that it was a bit tedious. I think it's a great plan, but I didn't do well with trying to remember the timing for the day's workout. On John's metroplex days, I'm going to TRY to revisit it for my runs around the block, but I found it next to impossible to work on using a treadmill.

Ok, where was I? Goals:

1. Run an entire mile without stopping to walk.
2. Head toward 191.
3. Drink LOTS of water (a gallon a day).
4. Go for a walk daily with the baby in her stroller.
5. Get a really good upper body and lower body workout in.

What are you all focusing on this week?

Who's in?

Today I looked at my calender and realized that my 30th birthday is now exactly 3 months away. Time to really get that scale moving! Especially since the holiday season will soon be here and we all know what that means- LOTS of GOOD FOOD!

My goal is to lose another 25 pounds by my birthday. I would really like to hit 30 or even 35 (yes, getting greedy here!), but since we're only talking a 13 week span, those numbers are probably a bit far-fetched, especially since Thanksgiving is the week before. So 25 it is. That will bring my total weight loss to 60 pounds in about 9 months. Pretty awesome, right?

Does anyone else want to join me in this? Maybe you don't have lots of weight to lose, but maybe you just want to try and be more active or to eat more fruits or veggies or something similar... If you're in, leave me a comment. I'm thinking we can check in on each other every Thursday on my blog in the comment room.
